Okay, I did it. For one week, I had two teaspoons of healthy oil each day. This morning was my weigh-in at Weight Watchers and…
I gained. I went from 149.6 to 149.8. So, it was only .2 ounces – yes, that’s right, POINT TWO. So really, was it a gain? Most would say not. I wasn’t upset by it in the least. However, a friend of mine who also attends Weight Watchers tried the oil thing this past week and she lost 1.8 pounds. Go figure.
I really only had one problem with the oil and that was the smell. See, I kind of have a sensitive sense of smell or I guess, a heightened sense of smell. Or at least I do now. Five years ago tomorrow, I celebrate my anniversary of quitting smoking. Ever since then, my sense of smell has come back tenfold. It’s kind of crazy.
At any rate, extra virgin olive oil, or at least the kind I was using, doesn’t have the most pleasant smell. At times, this was kind of hard for me to get past. I didn’t so much mind the taste when it was mixed in with my oatmeal because I added two tablespoons of sugar-free maple syrup to it. I literally would try and not breathe through my nose until it was all mixed in. Yes, sometimes, I am kind of weird or crazy.
At my meeting this morning, however, we talked about the oil again and someone suggested I use canola oil instead or find an olive oil that is specific for making dressings instead of one that is used for cooking or sauteing. Someone else suggested using light olive oil.
I do have to say, though, that there were two things I noticed about added the oil to my daily food intake. First, I did stay fuller longer after I ate. Now, this maybe could have been because of eating oatmeal, but I am thinking the oil had something to do with it. The other, which to be honest, I really liked and it’s a subject most people don’t talk about, but it kept me pretty regular – if you get my drift.
I decided that I would try it one more week, although I plan to try canola oil instead. I’ll let you know the results next week!
P.S. I want to thank all of you who either posted a comment or sent me an e-mail message. You have no idea how much your comments meant to me. Part of the reason I continue my healthy living journey is because of all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and thank you again for taking the time to read my blog.
